Indigenous Services Canada has released guidance to provide Indigenous communities located near resource section operations with practical guidance to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 as operations resume or increase. Complementary guidance for industry has also been released. The guidance materials build on public health guidance as well as operational requirements put in place by federal and provincial or territorial governments for industry operations and will assist energy companies, mines, forestry companies and other industries to keep employees and surrounding communities safe during the pandemic.
Indigenous community leadership best understand local needs and circumstances in responding to COVID-19. It is expected that First Nations governments will adapt the recommend health measures to suit their particular circumstances.
The public health measures outlined in this guidance document should be considered, in addition to any guidance/measures put in place by the province or territory in which the Indigenous community resides. More detailed information on these non-federal measures can be found at the Provincial and territorial resources for COVID-19 website.
